December 2025 saw the beginnings of the assessment of the building for construction. With items for reuse removed and the construction fence up January 2026 theater renovations are ready to go!

How it's going:

The exposed soil behind the construction site tarped over with a plastic cover held down with small mounds of dirt around the perimeter to protect the soil below from the elements. Puddles on tarp allude to it having recently rained.

February 26th Update

Brick Repointing and Utilities were the key words for this update!

Brick repointing involves removing the superficial layer of mortar between bricks so it can be replaced. This outer layer bears the majority of environmental exposure and damage. By removing it, the team is better able to assess and identify any trouble spots in the underlying mortar and bricks before applying a new layer. With a building of this age, the bricks and mortar have a different chemical composition than contemporary bricks and mortar, which can potentially cause a caustic reaction with certain widely used mortars and paints. This reaction leads to pitting and crumbling of the bricks to an almost sand-like consistency, which can be seen when contemporary materials are applied to original materials in older buildings.

The electrical and plumbing team members have been hard at work updating and mapping the existing utilities infrastructure. Because these buildings are among our older commercial spaces (but not the oldest), unexpected electrical and plumbing issues may arise, as some of the work was completed before there were requirements to document when and where wires and pipes were installed.
